St. Joseph’s Altar: A Labor of Love
Have you ever wanted to help with a St. Joseph Altar?
Our Lady of Hope will be Honoring St. Joseph with our 1st St. Joseph Altar on
Sunday, March 29, 2026
This Labor of Love comes with much preparation. The Ladies Book Club will embark upon this journey, taking us through the process from start to finish. We will be having a series of events beginning in May which will include the history, preparation, and execution of the Altar. We are reaching out to all Ladies who would like to learn about St. Joseph and how we can grow closer to him.
Cheryl Santangelo has graciously offered to walk us through this journey. She is a retired teacher/administrator who is a life long resident of Independence, LA. She has been helping with St. Joseph’s Altars in her community since the 1980’s. In 1991, Cheryl honored St. Joseph by hosting her first Altar in her home. The following year, she introduced the St. Joseph Altar to the children of Mater Dolorosa Catholic School. This lead to the publication “Spirit of Independence, The St. Joseph Day Celebration.” This booklet tells the story of the St. Joseph Altar Traditions found in her hometown of Independence, LA. Cheryl continues to host St. Joseph Altars in her home as taught by her family and community members of the past.
We will begin the first steps this May with our Sleepover / Cookie Demonstration / Social / History.

Continental Breakfast and Check-In begins at 8:00am.
The Book Club begins at 9:00am.
(Cost $55.00 includes, Lecture & Lunch)
The Ladies Sleepover will be the evening of May 13th, beginning at 5pm.
(Cost $50.00 Lodging only — Bedding and Towels provided)
