Baking Demonstration and Background
(Please try to register by November 3rd to allow us time to get all the needed ingredients to make these delicious cookies.)
Our Lady of Hope will host its first ever St. Joseph’s Altar on March 29th, which will be put together by our very own Ladies Book Club! This month’s book club will help to teach anyone interested about cooking for St. Joseph’s Altar, as well as providing some background on the Sicilian tradition!
Hello, World!
Cheryl Santangelo has graciously offered to walk us through this journey. She is a retired teacher/administrator who is a life long resident of Independence, LA. She has been helping with St. Joseph’s Altars in her community since the 1980’s. In 1991, Cheryl honored St. Joseph by hosting her first Altar in her home. The following year, she introduced the St. Joseph Altar to the children of Mater Dolorosa Catholic School. This lead to the publication “Spirit of Independence, The St. Joseph Day Celebration.” This booklet tells the story of the St. Joseph Altar Traditions found in her hometown of Independence, LA. Cheryl continues to host St. Joseph Altars in her home as taught by her family and community members of the past.
(Both of the Altars pictured on this page were hosted by Ms. Cheryl!)
