Small T Tradition: The Death of Thaddeus
Tradition holds that the Apostle.... St. Simon joined with the Apostle St. Jude around 66 A.D. to preach throughout Iran, which was furiously opposed to Christianity. Opposed by local rulers throughout Iran (Persia), St. Simon and St. Jude upon arriving at Suanir were ordered to offer a sacrifice to the local deities in the pagan temple. Instead, the Apostles exorcised the demons from the temple. At that event two figures were seen fleeing the temple, howling furiously. This enraged the local rulers to a point that they stirred up a mob to converge on the two men. As the crowd converged over the elderly men, St. Jude turned calmly to St. Simon and remarked “I see that the Lord is calling us.” The Apostles were pelted with stones. A man with a spear came up to St. Jude and ran him through; St. Simon was seized and sawed into pieces.
